The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement girls can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world – or at least their corner of it – and be eligible for college scholarships. In order to earn the award girls participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and spend 80 hours working on a community service project that has a sustainable impact on their communities.
Rebecca Brown, Roaring Ranch; Arynn Cooper, Wellsboro, PA
Rebecca is a home schooled junior. For her Gold Award project she created hands on exhibits for children at her local museum. She completed six stations with a history lesson that the children could learn from including a milk able wooden cow.
• Arynn is a graduate of Wellsboro High School and currently attends Millersville University. Arynn constructed a composting site at the Tioga County Fairgrounds including bins, landscaping, paths and signage. She also held educational programs on the benefits of composting at an area church and for younger Girl Scout members.
