In the fiercely contested race for the Republican nomination for District Attorney, incumbent Daniel Barrett was an easy winner, racking up over 50% of the vote against two opponents, former Judge Jeffrey Smith and Attorney Carrie Donald. Mr. Barrett won 3,935 votes, exceeding the combined totals of Mr. Smith (2,280) and Ms. Donald (1,529). There were 943 write-in votes on the Democrat side.
All three incumbent County Commissioners were renominated. Republicans Doug McLinko won 5,108 votes and Commissioner Daryl Miller 4,610. They defeated challengers Dale Bowen (2,072) and Jon Kulick (1,880). The Democrats nominated current Commissioner Ed Bustin (1,841) and Shawn Henfling (1,045).
Canton Borough Republican voters selected incumbent Council members Chris Thoren (155), Ken Robertson (132), Alfonse Ciaccio (122), and newcomer Paige VanRyn (111) for the four seats being contested. Canton Township Secretary Elnor Blaney won the Republican nomination as Canton Township Supervisor with 261 votes. She will succeed long-time Supervisor Jasper Smith, who did not seek reelection.
Council member Jennifer Malehorn was nominated by Republicans for a four-year term on the Troy Borough Council. She was unopposed for the seat and received 203 votes. Jason Wilcox, with 310 votes was renominated as Troy Township Supervisor.
In Canton School Board races, four current directors were renominated. Mike Herman and Melony Taylor won Republican nominations in Region I. Mr. Herman won 358 votes and Mrs. Taylor 276. William Holland won 154 votes, winning the Republican nomination for School Director in Region II (Canton Borough). In the Democrat races, Mrs. Taylor won 79 votes in Region I and Mr. Holland 45 in Region II. Incumbent Director Eric Anderson (39 votes) was re-nominated as a Democrat in Region II.
In the Troy Area School District, incumbent directors Ursula Fox (481) and Rebecca Nauta (452) were renominated by Republicans as School Directors in Region I for four-year terms. Mrs. Nauta also won the Democrat nomination with 121 votes. Bill Brasington (544 votes) was nominated by Republicans in Region I for a two-year term; John Morgan (373) was renominated in Region II with 373 Republican and 99 Democrat votes. In Region III, Incumbent director Dan Martin was renominated with 344 Republican votes. Challenger Sheryl Angove won 356 votes, defeating incumbent director Mike Olsyn, who had 254. Mrs. Angove also won the Democrat nomination, with 144 votes. Mr. Olsyn did not crossfile.
