It’s already been one year since I made a leap of faith to leave my cozy, guaranteed job at Tioga Publishing in Wellsboro to come to unknown territory for me, Bradford County, to be the editor of the Canton Independent Sentinel.
Time flies when you’re having fun right?
To say I am grateful for this opportunity is an understatement. Before I took this job, I was creatively frustrated. I wanted something to call my own that I could mold into what I consider my own “newspaper perfection.”
Well, folks, I am halfway there.
I still live in Tioga County currently, but I am looking to move into the Canton School District so that I may get more involved in the community.
As an “outsider” coming into both Troy and Canton, I see many bright minds gathering productively to better the well-being for each town. I admire that.
After ditching my hometown for college, briefly moving back because I didn’t care for the city, only to leave again a couple years later, I haven’t felt home in awhile. Honestly, I feel home in Bradford County, and I haven’t even moved here yet.
I have big plans yet to come for the paper. I would like to involve people with the paper more (which isn’t saying much because you, the public, do an AMAZING job including us in on events, local town news and meetings!).
I want people to come to us as their main news source. I am planning to send out “reader surveys” so that we may service you better. So, before they get sent out, think about what you would like to read, what you don’t care for, or feel free to give us new ideas as to what you’d like to see in the paper.
With me moving over here, the possibilities will be endless, and I look forward to serving our community the best way I know how, and have been, the last 10 years of my life. God has put me on the planet for two purposes: to be a mother (love my children!) and to be The Canton Independent Sentinel and Troy Gazette Register’s editor.
