CANTON — The Canton Township Supervisors approved a 2022 budget with no tax increase at their Monday evening meeting at the Township building.
Supervisors heard from Fire Chief Scott May, with the topic of raising the contract cost between the fire department and the township. The reason for the raise is due to higher costs in fuel and insurance and May noted that it was the first contract raise in five years.
May continued, stating that between the seven municipalities they cover, they are seeking around a $10,000 increase in cost. For Canton Township, this means a $3,437.84 raise in their contract (a 6% raise).
May also gave the supervisors an update on the loader truck, stating that it is back from the shop. He also noted that they are still looking at generator options and considering what they plan to do about the generator in the future.
Secretary Elnor Blaney spoke with supervisors about the health insurance, in which she noted that they are able to keep the same insurance for employees at a lower cost to the township.
She also noted bills that need to be paid to Schoonover’s and Bardo, Cox and Miller for work on the new township building.
Supervisors approved meeting dates for 2022, with meetings staying at 8 p.m. on the first Monday evening of each month, with the exception of July, due to the Fourth of July holiday.
The next Canton Township Supervisors meeting will be Monday, Jan. 3, for reorganization at 8 p.m. in the township building.
