CANTON — Canton Township continued its weekly special meetings on March 29. Attorney Arnold Caldwell was on hand with papers the township supervisors and secretary would have to sign and file with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
The paperwork is necessary to get the DCED to formally approve the township taking out a loan valued at $1,000,000 to pay for expected costs related to replacing equipment and buildings lost in this year’s fire. Such documents included a Borrowing Base Certificate: which used revenue from previous years to determine borrowing maximums, a Debt Statement, and an ordinance formally laying out the terms of the loan. The documents were signed and given to Caldwell to file. The DCED will have to approve or deny the ordinance within 30 days.
More discussion was had on the dimensions of a potential new building. New commercial buildings over 4,999 square feet in area require advanced fire suppression systems such as sprinklers or fire walls. Supervisors proposed a new building that would be 48 feet wide and 100 feet long, thus being under the limit. The proposed dimensions will likely be used in checking prices of construction when comparing different builders.
Bob Petrowski also asked that he be given permission to search out a piece of equipment for rent to facilitate small maintenance projects while the township waits on its new equipment. It was decided that, should Petrowski find a piece, he would call Gary Ferguson with the rental price so that Ferguson may approve or deny the rental.
The next meeting will be a regularly scheduled Canton Township meeting on April 5 at 8 p.m.
