After the ceremony and reception, the couple traveled to Niagara Falls for their honeymoon. The couple started their married life living in a trailer on Maynard Schmezle's farm. Marlin worked as a DHIA supervisor for 18 years; worked in the mines for three or four years; |
drove cattle truck for Robert Rathbun, five or six years; and worked for Centre Concrete for 13 years while farming on the former Albert Harmen farm which they bought in 1962.
He is still active as he delivers Meals on Wheels to local residents and really enjoys this. He has been doing this for the last 13 years.
"Jean" as she is known, also helped on the farm; milking cows, baling hay, working at Billards in Covington and Paper Magic in Troy, and taking care of their children.
In later years she was caregiver for Judge Webb, Lewis Auld, Kay Bower, and her sister, Donna and others during their last days.
Mr. and Mrs. Cohick are the proud parents of seven children: Tony (Cathy) Cohick, Roaring Branch;Tim (Sharon) Cohick, Virginia; Melina (Phil) Kilgore, Michigan; Tom (Dawn) Cohick, Virginia; Michelle Williams, Virginia; and Melony (Joe Jones),Roaring Branch and Tyler (deceased).
They also have 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
They were predeceased by grandsons Brett and Matt and son Tyler; Jean's two brothers and four sisters.
But they noted that they are blessed with many happy times during their 60 years as a wedded couple and have many happy times among the sad.
As part of their celebration, they traveled back to Niagara Falls on a bus trip. They thought it was nice, but a lot had changed over the years.
They are looking forward to many more years of wedded bliss.
