In his new position, Smith will serve in the role of Special Assistant to the Governor.
“I am very proud to accept this position in the governor's office; however, it also is bittersweet,” Smith said. “I take great pride in serving the people of Bradford County. I was born and raised here, my friends and family are here, and I love it here. I am looking forward to serving in a role where I can work for the best interests of not only Bradford County, but that of Pennsylvania as a whole.”
Smith was first elected county commissioner in 2007, and subsequently won re-election in 2011. He also was a candidate for Lt. Governor in 2014. Although he was unsuccessful, Smith was praised by many for his tireless work ethic, impressive fundraising effort and a strong advertising campaign which garnered him 15% of the statewide vote in a five way race.
Smith stated, “I have enjoyed working with all of the county employees and elected officials over my last two terms, and I want to thank them for their cooperation and hard work. I also want thank all of my generous supporters over the years, especially my wife Jane and the rest of my family”.
