Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital today announced that it was awarded $403,280 for a Maternal, Infant, Early Childhood Home Visiting grant. Desiree Rockwell, Administrator for Guthrie’s Nurse Family Partnership said: “We are very pleased to receive this grant. Nurse-Family Partnership changes the life trajectories for both mother and child, benefiting multiple generations. |
Nurse-Family Partnership is an evidence-based community health home visitation program that helps transform the lives of income eligible women pregnant with their first child. This grant is for continuation of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program which is based in the hospital.
Registered Nurses begin home visits early in the mother’s pregnancy and continue visitation until the child’s second birthday. These nurses provide support, education and counseling on health, infant development and self-sufficiency topics. Mothers and children who have participated have consistently demonstrated significantly improved prenatal health, fewer subsequent pregnancies, increased maternal employment, improved child school readiness, reduced involvement in crime, and less child abuse, neglect and injuries.
Nurse-Family Partnership is administered through Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital and has been serving first-time mothers across the region since 2007. It currently has 87 mothers enrolled. For more information about NFP at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital or to find out if you may be eligible to take part, contact Desiree Rockwell at (570) 268-2518 or desiree.rockwell@memorialhospital.org.
