CANTON/TROY — Amiee Jones loved Barre so much, she decided she wanted to become an instructor in October.
“I had taken Barre classes when I visited gyms in larger areas and knew I loved the workout, but had no way of continuing at home,” she said.
When online programs became available, Jones was able to continue her workouts from home.
“This just confirmed how much I really did love it, and I decided to pursue my certification.”
Barre is a class that uses ballet bars. Barre workouts are like pilates, yoga and aerobics.
“Barre is so beneficial! It’s low impact, so you’re joints and back are protected. But, it’s still high intensity and very challenging, so you get a great workout in,” she said.
Jones says Barre is based on classic ballet movements, so the positions and alignment used target muscle groups that many other workouts do not.
“However, it is presented in a fitness class format so the moves are very achievable. You do NOT need to be a ballerina to do this workout,” she said.
Every Monday night, Jones is teaching a Barre class at the Troy Sale Barn, to help raise money for the barn’s upcoming renovations. The 45-minute class begins at 5:30 p.m. and cost $10 per participant.
“I was looking for a Troy location for classes. I had been holding classes at the Canton Fitness Center for about three weeks, and had a few people in the Troy area who were interested but couldn’t make it all the way over to Canton in time for class,” said Jones. “I approached the Sale Barn just out of curiosity! The board discussed it, and I’m really excited it worked out. It’s a beautiful facility with plenty of space. We had a great turn out for the first class!”
She also teaches at the Canton Fitness Center every Wednesday evenings at 5:30 and Friday mornings at 10 a.m.
“They have a great space upstairs above their main weight room, and the classes have been growing there as well!”
Though Jones is currently a Mansfield resident, she lived in Troy for about seven years. She continues to attend New Life Church in Canton.
“When I finished my certification and put the word out that I’d like to start classes, I had more connections and interest coming from that area. I am interested in starting a Mansfield class, should interest arise.”
