The Bradford County Library will show a documentary film "Irena Sendler: In the Name of Their Mothers", Thursday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m.
When 29-year-old social worker Irena Sendler saw the suffering of Warsaw's Jews, she reached out to her most trusted colleagues for help. Together, they rescued over 2,500 Jewish children by forging identification papers and placing them in Catholic safe houses and orphanages in Warsaw and the Polish countryside.
In her late 90s when interviewed for this film, Irena Sendler's straightforward account of her life is both humbling and inspiring. She recalls her incarceration in a Gestapo prison, and her continued harassment by authorities in post-war Communist Poland. This film expertly captures the will and character of the women of the resistance against the backdrop of occupied Poland.
The viewing of this film is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Library at 570-297-2436 or email bclibrary@bradfordco.org. The Bradford County Library is located one mile west of the town of Burlington. Like us on Facebook!
