It is a dialogue between Joseph Priestley and Lorenzo Da Ponte. It's an impossible conversation since the two men never met, yet it is not improbable. Both men lived across the river from one another in Northumberland and Sunbury at nearly the same time.
Priestly, the great scientist of the eighteenth century who first isolated oxygen and then brought Unitarianism to America and Da Ponte, the librettist of three of Mozart's greatest operas including Don Giovanni were liberal thinkers who shared much in their understanding of the human condition. Join us as we celebrate the lives of two remarkable people.
