On Saturday, June 6, some 200 people turned out at Endless Winds Volunteer Fire Co. to help Ed Fisher of Shunk celebrate his 90th birthday. Suzi, Ed’s wife, got everyone to quiet down so the party could begin. Tim Wiker opened the happy occasion by singing a Randy Travis song to honor all who have served in our military on the anniversary of D-Day including Ed who was in the Army during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge, General Eisenhower’s Honor Guard and later in the ticker tape parade marking the end of the war in NYC. Ed was given a big Birthday sign depicting his motorcycle racing by John Gannon who painted it. |
Many folks wrote greetings on the it during the day. Ed was made an Honorary Philadelphia Highway Patrolman by Jim who presented him with a leather jacket, ID badge, and hooded sweatshirt with the Highway Patrol Drill Team insignia.
Since Ed was the first Triumph factory racer to win a National in 1953 at the 100 Mile Race, Laconia, NH Ed Sensenig of Ephrata, PA presented Ed with a large framed picture of that day. Janice, Ed’s niece, and Sam Showalter plus Dan Suter, Ed’s nephew, from Harrisonburg, VA sang “Jericho Road” to note Ed love of traveling.
Pastor Jerry Schmidt of Tri-County Parish said a prayer. Then all enjoyed the pig roast followed a cake decorated with a Triumph Motorcycle and one candle for each decade to blow out. There were many friends and family from as far as Hamilton, Ont., Canada; Mabank, TX; Harrisonburg, VA, Central & Eastern OH; MD; plus many parts of PA. Many rode their motorcycles.
