TROY — The Troy Borough Council was presented information about the new police body cams made by Watch Guard at the monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 26.
Police Chief Dooley discussed how the new body cams work at the meeting in the school’s administration building. The police department has had the body cams for about a month now.
He also showed a test video of him and another officer using the body cams for a tested road-stop, to give council an idea of how the body cams work. The body cams are able to record up to 30 seconds of video before the button is pushed by an officer, in case an officer forgets to record.
“These are designed to see what we see,” said Chief Dooley.
“It also helps us with our reports.”
Dooley noted that the videos are part of evidence and are uploaded at the end of each shift. Because it becomes evidence, the police officers are able to use it in court-related cases, should a case go that far.
“We are happy with them. They work great and they’re super easy to use,” said Dooley.
