TOWANDA — Bradford County Commissioners named July 18-24 as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision week in Bradford County at their July 22 meeting.
This proclamation honors all of those in the probation/supervision and correctional facility departments.
Commissioners also noted the official hire of James Bowen, who has sworn in as the county’s coroner.
Bowen was hired for the job after previous coroner Tom Carman resigned a couple weeks ago.
“He has done an outstanding job,” Commissioner Daryl Miller said of Bowen.
Bowen is appointed to the position until the end of 2021.
The position will be available for voting in the November election this year. Whomever is elected will fill the position for the next two years.
After approving hires and salaries, the commissioners spoke about the upcoming event at Cook’s Pond, with some background information on how the Pond was donated to Bradford County.
Located in Orwell Township, the lake is about 33 acres in size and fisherman can catch a variety of fishing, including bass and catfish.
“My buddy actually caught a big bass fish there,” said Commissioner Doug McLinko.
On Saturday, Aug. 7, the commissioners will host a Kid’s Day at the Pond, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for kids ages 16 and under.
Commissioners noted that there will be food, games, crafts, water safety, fly fishing, and more at the event.
Endless Mountains Outfitters will be at the event with Kayaks, paddle boats and more.
Hot dogs will be served and each child will receive free ice cream.
“It’s a great event for kids,” said Commissioner Miller.
The next Bradford County Commissioners meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m.
