TOWANDA — Bradford County Commissioners declared March as Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month in Bradford County at their March 11 meeting via ZOOM.
Following the proclamation was a video presentation highlighting those individuals in the county as well as the changes and adaptive habits those who take care of them had to make during the pandemic.

Commissioners approved the bids for the Ben Franklin project, which is now in phase two. The following contractors won the bids: AFT for plumbing at a cost of $80,435; Middendorf for electrical at a cost of $134,640; AFT for mechanical at a cost of $153,210 and Streeter for the general contractor at a cost of $897,000. Streeter was the lowest bid with another company at the bid opening held on Feb. 23. According to county code, commissioners are allowed to “roll the dice” to determine the winner, which took place on March 10 at a.m. in the Commissioners conference room in the Courthouse. The original estimate for this project was $1.3 million. ACT13 money will be used to complete it.
“It will be a good addition to downtown Towanda,” said Commissioner Doug McLinko.
The 2020 CDBG application for Animal Care Sanctuary is not eligible for those funds, so the allotted money of $73,452 went to the Housing Rehab.
Commissioners approved an agreement with Unisyn Voting Solutions for provide Election Day support, machine maintenance, and software licensing at a fee of $30,450. This is an annual contract and the service is provided to all of Bradford County.
Commissioners also approved authorizing the chief clerk to advertise an RFP for Management Services for the Children and Youth Department as well as ATM services at the Bradford County Courthouse.
The chief clerk will also be advertising for bids for the Bronson Road Improvement Project in West Burlington Township. This will be for repair and improving the approach roadway as well as installation of a guide rail at Bradford County “Bridge 8.”
FEMA money will be paying for Bradford County’s “Bridge 21” in Monroe Township. The bridge is located over South Branch of Towanda Creek. Bids will be advertised for this project as well.
Commissioner Doug McLinko said that the Veterains Affairs Director noted that Hometown Heroes banners are still available.
The next Bradford County Commissioners meeting will be Thursday, March 25, at 10 a.m. at the Troy Sale Barn to honor Bonnie Bell.
