TROY -- The Troy School Board meeting started off with presentations regarding the CAOLA teaching program teachers have been using to interact with students and teach during the last few weeks.
Kristen Page, a 6th grade teacher, gave a presentation on what an experience with CAOLA looks like on the student end. Page noted, in the beginning of CAOLA-based instruction, students had a difficult time signing in to the program.
Students have to click on an option button and click a sign in option there rather than the SIGN IN tab displayed. Page highlighted the student’s various subjects they are learning and the “landing page” those direct to.
Page went into detail into her specific teaching style using Bellringers and Understanding Quizzes to gauge student’s understanding of subjects. She also displayed notes on the day’s lesson plans and showed the helpful tool students can click on to help learn. The tool, similar in appearance to a compass rose, opens to a variety of options students can use including: reading to students, translating words, defining words, defining words with pictures, underlining, and highlighting.
