While the parade is going to happen, please understand that some changes must be made in order to follow regulations put in place with regard to Covid-19. We are encouraging mask wearing and discouraging congregating in groups. Participants in the parade cannot exceed 250. We are asking that there be no throwing of candy from the floats/cars as this would encourage close interaction.
The parade route will not be on PennDOT roads and will instead be along Borough residential streets. We are considering expanding the route, again to encourage social distancing, but it would be helpful if we could gauge the interest on participation to help us finalize the route. We recommend spectators do not congregate on corners and instead spread out across sidewalks or on their own front porches/lawns along the parade route. There will be no music in the Main Street Park prior to and after the parade nor will there be an MC.
Floats will be judged at 4:30 p.m.; location to be determined once a potential District football game has been scheduled. If not in the parking lot of the high school, judging will most likely take place along East Union Street facing west. No matter where the judging will take place, please have floats available at 4 p.m. to begin lining up for judging. There will be a novelty category to include items that are not floats (ie: 4-wheelers, golf carts, etc.) Antique cars are welcome, but will not be judged unless decorated.
This year there will be no judging of costumes and novelties; however walkers in the parade are welcome, again following social distancing guidelines.
Pets and animals are only permitted if insurance coverage is provided ahead of time listing the Chamber of Commerce as an additional insured.
Donations are needed and will be accepted for parade expenses. Please send them to Kim Bailey, Chemung Canal Bank, 5 West Main Street, Canton or Amy Seeley, Canton Borough, PO Box 174, Canton. Expenses include ribbons and cash prizes, candy, donation to the marching band, etc.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that anyone participating follow the guidelines. As always, please stay safe and practice social distancing.
