WEST BURLINGTON — Northern Tier Solid Waste Association hosted this month’s Troy Chamber meeting. The group met at NTSWA at noon on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Committee Reports
President Zach Gates noted that the July meeting was well-attended Chris Brown spoke to the group about revitalization efforts in the valley and how we can apply them to Western Bradford County.
For the car show, Veronica Seymour noted that the event was rained out only once so far this season. The car show held before the meeting (Aug. 31) made $291.
Gates wanted to inform chamber that Hometown Heroes banners should probably be looked at in about a year and a half. He was contacted by a family interested in putting a banner up.
For Person/Business of the Year, it was noted that more discussion on the event will take place at next month’s meeting, with preparation and voting to take place in November, and the winners will be recognized at the December meeting.
Gates announced Terren Smith, who spoke about two separate events. The first was an event she spoke about at Nicole Carman’s Greener Pastures farm, that she would like to bring in at the Inn and do tea and cookies and a fun craft. She is seeking input from the chamber concerning this possible new event in collaboration with Carman.
Recommended groups to talk to were a book club at the library, the Heritage Garden Club and Canton Garden Club.
The second is the Pennsylvania Heritage Festival, slated for Sept. 18, 19, at the Bradford County Heritage Museum in Troy. The event will host many demonstrations, hands-on activities, crafts, vendors and more.
Tourism Agency
Robyn Cummings spoke about the room tax grant opening. It will close on Friday, Oct. 15. The overview and application can be found at visitbradfordcounty.com website. Applications need to be complete, and there is a checklist with the application. Questions can be deferred to Robyn.
There are free grant writing services provided by the Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission.
The final set of panels is planned to be painted in Troy. Those will be ready soon, and Cummings noted she will be sending information around when the time comes. It’s a paint by number set up and days that will take place are Monday through Thursday. It’s planned to be on the train car next spring.
The annual guide is being planned, with 2022 events to be reported. She asks people to submit their events soon for the guide. It’s free to submit.
The final item she noted was the bike packing route, with over 400 miles in every town in Bradford County, with points of interests along the route. Now, they are working on charging stations, bike racks and pump stations to include with the guide. She said it’s a highly sought after outdoor activity and expects to see great success with this route. It will be the first one in PA like this.
Rotary/Lions Club
They are gearing up for Christmas baskets this year.
The walkway path by the Dandy is still being worked on with new lighting. They received a grant to put in the pole lights.
The annual raffle begins in October. This benefits the community and its needs.
Troy Sale Barn
They are still working on renovations. Theater seats are planned to come to the Barn from C&N Bank sometime this fall. Repsol is helping to make this happen. Amy Ward offered to let people see the theater seats before they move to their new permanent home at the Barn.
CareerLink
Darlene Wampole noted of new mobile services that CareerLink is offering in Canton and Troy.
She also wanted to remind chamber members that they are able to upload job postings on their website and that they can assist employers on helping them find new employees.
New Business
The upcoming Halloween parade was discussed, with planning at date, deciding rain or shine, and where and who would all be involved.
Halloween is on a Sunday this year. The planned event will be at 5 p.m. on that Sunday, Oct. 31, rain or shine.
Gates was contacted by Bradford County Witches dance group asking if there will be a parade this year.
Cummings was voted to contact the school about whether or not they will host a safe trick-or-treat.
Gates was voted to contact the Troy Borough Manager Dan Close concerning the route and any permits needed, as well as whether or not trick-or-treat will take place after.
The next Troy Chamber meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 6, with location to still be determined.
