The Office of Continuing Education and Graduate Studies at Elmira College is offering two non-credit professional development programs beginning in September designed to assist working professionals in strengthening job skills and meeting education requirements.
Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital and Guthrie Hospice recently held the Good Grief Day Camp at the Vesper Church Spiritual Life Center in Standing Stone June 16-18. Over 15 campers attended this bereavement support camp for children ages 6 through 18 who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Good Grief Day Camp provides an atmosphere to help kids understand that their grieving feelings are normal and lets them celebrate the life of the person who has died. It also helps them to learn coping skills. The focus of the camp is to help children with grief and bereavement through play, art, music and activities. The location of the camp allowed for both indoor and outdoor activities. Ryan’s Hope Co-ed Memorial Softball Tournament is scheduled for August 8 and 9, 2015. The Green Home recently recognized staff and residents during National Nursing Home Week with an exciting line up of games, entertainment, activities and special themed treats. As part of the fiesta theme, residents learned about Spain, Mexico and Latin America as they sampled churros, apple enchiladas, tortillas, salsa, jalapeno corn bread and Mexican cola. Residents then took part in a spirited game of life-size tic-tac-toe using colorful sombreros. Residents’ families and friends joined the fun as residents learned about the Spanish custom of “the running of the bulls” in Pamplona before donning bull horns and having a run of their own through the halls, bringing smiles and laughter ever where they went. A FREE presentation by Arnot Health Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Thomas Boman will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in the Petrie East Conference Room. Dr. Boman will provide information about the process of joint replacement surgery for people who are trying to decide if the procedure is right for them.
