CANTON, TROY — Memorial Day this year was welcomed by a nice sunny day. In the morning, both Canton and Troy hosted parades honoring veterans with ceremonies to follow.
Troy
Troy’s parade began at 9 a.m. The parade began with the Troy Veteran’s Club marching with flags and ended with Fire and EMS trucks.
The parade was about 15 minutes long and walked to Davison Park in Troy to finish the morning with a ceremony on “The Green.”
Towards the end of the parade, the public was encouraged to “step off the curb” and join them as they walked to Davison Park to finish the parade.

Canton
Canton’s parade began at 10 a.m., with a short stop at Memorial Park for a brief service provided by the American Legion.
The ceremony included taps played by and a gun salute by Ernie Turner ,Leo Seachrist and Ed Mortez.
The parade included veterans, church organizations, local Fire/EMS organizations and more. It lasted about 10 minutes and paraded through town, using the same route as the Halloween parade in the fall.
When the group stopped at Memorial Park, they waited and watched the ceremony.

Marine Corps.
The Marine Corps. League (Deer X-ing) is located right outside Ralston at 154 Route 14 Ralston. Their phone number is 570-998-9383. Their photo was featured in last week’s paper, which showed the display they had in honor of Memorial Day.
