DANVILLE — A Canton man was involved in a recent crash in the Danville area, which involved three monkeys going missing.
The crash occurred on Friday, Jan. 21, at about 3:07 p.m. in Valley Township.
According to Pennsylvania State Police’s Trooper Matthew Lesher who filed the report, Tyler G. Deeghan, 29, of Canton was driving his 2021 Peterbilt 367 dump truck when he struck a Dodge Ram pickup truck turning onto I-80 in front of him.
The Dodge Ram with an enclosed trailer carrying 100 monkeys was driven by Cody Brooks of Keystone Heights, Fla., and Daniel Adkins of Florahome, Fla., was a passenger in the vehicle.
According to the report, Brooks was traveling south on Route 54 East near its intersection with I-80 and went to turn onto the ramp in front of Deeghan.
Deeghan hit Brooks at the five o’clock position and the Dodge Ram broke off from the trailer it was hauling and rotated counterclockwise, went off the roadway, striking a culvert and coming to rest in a final position facing northeast.
The dump truck continued traveling in a north direction, going off the roadway, striking a culvert and came to a rest facing north.
Three monkeys became loose from the enclosed trailer, resulting from the crash, which took responders hours to locate and recover after an extensive search of the area.
Brooks was charged by State Police with turning movements and required signals. Adkins faced a suspected minor injury, but both Brooks and Deeghan were deemed not injured.
Assisting on the scene were Liberty Valley Fire Department, Liberty Valley EMS, Bressler’s Garage, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania State Police aviation, the CDC and the Department of Health.
