There will be a variety of plants for sale, one of the members will be bringing Hens and Chickens which are sempervivums, also, called house-leeks.
Most are cold hardy and drought tolerant, in fact they don't like rich, moist soil at all. The poorer the soil, the better. They are great for rock gardens. In the United Kingdom and parts of Wales they can be found on the roofs in the country. It is believed that if a stranger picks or removes a house-leek, bad luck will come upon the residents, possibly even death. A roof garden with house-leeks will provide safety and prosperity for the family, even against lightening, fire, and witchcraft.
They are also known for their medicinal purposes for providing relief from insect bites and burns.
Some of the other plants that will be offered at the sale will be dwarf lavender wood iris, rudbeckia, Stella do Ora day-lilies, lavender and red garden phlox, pink bearded iris, German and Swedish ivy, tomato and pepper plants, sunflowers and a lot more.
Members will also be planting the barrels in town and if you would like to help they would love to have you. Come and check out the Canton Farmer's Market on Saturday.
