CANTON — It was a short and succinct meeting of the Canton Borough Water Authority on Feb. 9.
Plant manager Ryan Machmer had received four bids for the Troy Street upgrade project.
Machmer as particularly impressed by the McTish Engineering bid which included on site supervision and extra attention to detail to make sure the new line put in was of the finest quality workmanship before it gets covered.
The majority of water lost to leaks are in the new water lines throughout town that were just installed in recent years, so steps to make sure this project avoids those mistakes were of great concern. The board voted unanimously to empower board member Neal Nelsen and Machmer to go over the bids and make the final determination and award the contract for the project.
Joy Williams was hired and will start Feb. 19.
The Water Authority sold 362,000 gallons of water worth $4,341 in the month of January. The Water Authority averaged 363,000 gallons of water lost last month but a service line leak was discovered and dealt with on Brann Street since last meeting. The temporary shut down of water to the East end of town did not yield new leak locations. $2,352 worth of stormwater runoff was collected in the month of January.
Lastly the Water Authority has not yet received its January $600 check from Brenda Mott. Mott currently owes $213,248.69.
