Penn State Extension is again sponsoring Everybody Walk Across PA this spring. It is eight weeks of walking, March 30 to May 24, to improve health. Plus, we will virtually visit several of Pennsylvania’s State Parks.

The Bradford County Library presents Matthew Carl, Manager and Curator at the Bradford County Historical Society, discussing "Remarkable Women of Bradford County" on Thursday, March 26, at 6:00 p.m. Bradford County history books written in the late 1800’s are filled with the stories and accomplishments of a long list of men. But what about the outstanding women who made Bradford County their home? This program will discuss women from all over the county who led remarkable lives. Some of the women to be included in the program are Alice C. Evans, Mary Mitten, Jane Delano, Louise Welles Murray, Dawes Markwell, Hila Mills, and others. This event is free and open to the public. The Guthrie Troy Community Hospital Auxiliary is now holding its annual Mother’s Day hanging flower basket sale. Flowers can be ordered directly from the hospital gift shop or by calling 570-297-9255. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Senior Regent Pro-tem opened the March 23 of Canton Women of the Moose 981 meeting with eleven members present. Five new applications were voted on and accepted.
Election of officers was then held. New officers for the 2015/ 2016 year are: Sr. Regent, Tina M. Gills-Johnson; Jr. Regent, Sharon Kelley; Jr. Graduate Regent, Darlene MacDonald; Secretary/Treasurer, Annette Sharrow; Recorder, Dessa Staboleski. Troy TOPS #986 met on March 23rd at the Troy Vets Club with fourteen members weighing in with a total loss of nine pounds for TOPS and 1 1/4 pounds for KOPS. There were two turtles.
The top TOPS member was Velma and the top KOPS was Julia with 1/2 pound. The Armenia Township board of Supervisors met on March 12. at Covert Church Annex with Supervisors Steve Harris, Chad Harwick and Wayne Morgan. Secretary Mallory Babcock, Emergency Management Coordinator Ken Krise. Matt Riel, Eddie Legg.
There were some visitor comments. Dan Bastion asked if Douglas Road could be prepped as an alternate route for residents to get off the mountain in lieu of the Talisman traffic. The Board agreed this would be a good idea. The destiny of a nation is not determined by its armed forces or material resources. Nor is it empowered by its political philosophy or intellectual achievements. God’s Word reveals and the records of history prove that it is “not by power, nor by might, but by my spirit” that nations survive over time.
The destiny of any nation is determined by the spiritual life of its people. “Blessed is the nation,” David declared, “whose God is the Lord.” To help preserve and protect the history of Bradford County for generations to come, Reps. Tina Pickett and Matt Baker announced a $4,000 state grant has been awarded to the Bradford County Historical Society.
“Having grown up in Bradford County, preserving and protecting our local heritage and history mean a great deal to me, and that’s why I’m pleased to see that the state is providing grant funding to many of our smaller historical societies in rural areas,” Pickett said. |
