During these pandemic times, now more than ever, Ron and I have tried a little harder to eat better, get more exercise and to use our time and talents to help those that need a hand up. I keep hearing my mom Lucille say “Remember – what goes around comes around.” Anyway – I’ve become very conscious to the fresh fruit and vegetables I’ve been buying, and I understand we can’t grow bananas anywhere close in this country, but why grapes from Chili? Why peppers and cucumbers from Mexico? And I love this ad: “Fresh asparagus! From Peru!” Really??? So tell me, just how FRESH can this stuff be? Thanks for letting me vent a bit.
I finished the crocks for the cemeteries on Sunday. Saturday when we went to East Canton to Ron’s parents Beverly and Ronald and his Wilmarth grandparents, we were stunned to see where Beverly’s grave was bare dirt and rocks looking horrid! She passed away last November and apparently we forgot about getting it taken care of properly. We flew to Troy and bought some grass seed and called “Ferg” to get some straw and we raked up the sod, sprinkled down the seed and covered it with straw. I’m in hopes Beverly has finally stopped spinning in her grave....
Ron and I have been enjoying seeing the deer in the field across from us, as well as all the new calves being born on Hojo’s farm next door. He has a young steer that is determined to find ways to escape every field and fence he puts it in. If we know Hojo – that youngster will NOT win. He may end up on next year’s bar-b-que grill. Speaking of deer, on one of my errand runs I saw a beautiful sight of a young doe with her tiny spotted fawn nursing in the bright sunshine against bright green grass.
On May 30, 1868, the graves of Civil War soldiers were decorated at Arlington National Cemetery on the first official observance of Memorial Day.
Quote by Abraham Lincoln: “It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”
Food for thought: Stumblers who give up are a dime a dozen. If fact, they’re worthless. Stumblers who get up are rare. If fact, they’re priceless.
Ps: Ron is feeling pretty good – waiting for Dauphin County to open up where Hershey Medical Center is to continue with his upcoming procedure. Thanks a million for your continued prayers.
