Council wishes to thank Canton Borough for the excellent work on sweeping Sister Street. Residents and council members were very pleased with outcome of the street sweeping project.
Council approved the purchase of necessary road sign replacements for Windfall Road sign at the Minnequa Main intersection, replacement and additional speed limit signs at a cost ranging from $28.50 to $43 per sign with poles and hardware costing about $55 additionally. Council will need to contact Penn DOT for the specific sign locations but plans to do so in the coming weeks.
Council renewed the annual garbage collection contract with Casella Waste Management for the Alba Community Park dumpster at a rate of $42.85/month. Council also approved bidding on two used radar speed alert signs that are currently up for auction from PennDOT. Council approved the maximum bid to be set at $500/sign. The signs are moveable, solar, and display traffic speeds with a 35mph speed limit sign attached to them. If Alba Borough is the winning bidder, the signs will be transported from Harrisburg, repaired as needed, and put into use along any roadway with in the borough. Many council members noted the increase in speeding as the weather has warmed this spring and the dangers to the general public caused by the disregard for speed limits within the borough.
