The Bradford/Sullivan AARP Chapter #4423 members held their annual picnic at noon Tuesday August 11 in the double pavilion at Hornbrook Park. Before the dish to share and hamburgs and hot dogs luncheon, President Tom House led those attending in the flag salute and praying the “Lord's Prayer”
President House thanked Fred Fiester for setting up an AARP information table at the Tina Pickett Expo and also thanked Pat Wachtendorf, Sharon DePoto and Ruth Ann Cleveland who assisted Fred. The next event for this chapter will be to participate in, is the Sullivan County Fair at Forksville Thursday September 3rd. Thanks were also extended to Dewey and Pat Cokely for furnishing their gas grill and to Pat Wachtendorf who transported the grill to the picnic. Another big thank-you is due to Janet and George Smith for furnishing the hamburgs and hot dogs plus rolls, which was the high-light of the luncheon.
There was a short discussion on dinning out more often as a club, which will be discussed further at the September meeting.
It was reported that member Kenny King is “under the weather “ at this time.
Another high-light of day was the Brown Bag Auction following the luncheon, with Leland Ayers acting as the auctioneer, with assistance from Tom House and Howard Colwell. This was an enjoyable time as one never knows what to expect from Leland! This auction is a money raising project toward the AARP Scholarship.
The auction was the ending of an enjoyable afternoon for the 23 members and 1 guest attending.
The next scheduled meeting will be held in the Wysox EMS Building at 1:30 September 8, 2015, come a little early and enjoy refreshments. Guests are always welcome.
