CANTON — Canton Township held its regular meeting March 1st.
The replacement loader should arrive on Wednesday, March 3. A $10,000 down payment will be paid on arrival.
Road foreman Bob Petrowski reported they were anticipating dragging out some of the burned-out equipment from the shed throughout the week to facilitate tearing the old building down. It’s anticipated that the insurance company should have a valuation regarding the damage of the December fire by the end of the week.
Chairman Gary Ferguson reported the township, assuming all other permits go through, would be able to orient the new building so that the doors face north instead of south. This will help with convenience of parking and better mitigate runoff from the building roof to a grassy catchment area to the south. It is likely the existing fuel shed will have to be moved to a new location but that is not expected to be a major project.
Also on the agenda, the township will likely look for bids for cinders, 2RC gravel, and fuel.
Ferguson also mentioned when receiving the bid for the new building the township should include a generator hooked up to the new building in case of power outages.
The Canton Township will continue to meet every Monday at 8 p.m. at the township building to better keep up with developments for the foreseeable future.
