On June 17, the Troy Rotary Club honored ten Troy High School graduates for their work in school and in the community.
The ceremony was opened with the invocation by Rev. Garry Zuber. Preston Edsell, president of the Rotary welcomed all in attendance and introduced Dick Besley, the keynote speaker and also a member of the Troy High School Class of 1949.
Mr. Besley in 1984, retired as a Colonel from the US Air Force after 30 years of service. He returned to the farm where he was born and raised in Columbia Crossroads, and tended beef cattle for ten years. Mr. Besley served on the Troy School Board for eight years; is a member of the Troy Lions Club; American Legion; VFW for 30 years. He is active in the Troy Area School District Foundation and was named as a Distinguished Alumni; and Veterans' Honor Guard, as well as the "Honey Do" list maintained by his wife Linda.

Casey Baxter Casey was active in National Honor Society, Interact Club, Varsity Girls' Soccer and FFA in high school. She earned numerous awards including the Scholastic Excellence Award, Troy Area Agricultural Scholarship, Good Citizenship Award, Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award, and National Merit Scholarship Program. Melissa B. Hulslander Melissa participated in Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Chamber Choir, Student Council, volleyball. She earned the Lifetouch Yearbook Scholarship,Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award, and the Hubbard Endowment Scholarship. Melissa plans to attend Susquehanna University for publishing and legal studies to pursue a career in law. Shannon Monroe Shannon was a member of the National Honor Society, as well at being a member of the varsity soccer team, Student Council, Leo Club, and Letterman's Club. She received the Raymond and Mildred Bradley Altruistic Award, Joseph R. Every Scholarship, Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award, and the Jim and Vivian Hall Scholarship. She plans to attend college to major in biology. | Matthew Bulkley Matthew participated in Student Council, National Honor Society, wrestling, football, and Leo Club. He earned the Gold President Academic Fitness Award. His future plans are to join the United States Marine Corps and attend college to become an officer. Emily Lathrop Emily was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Band, Chamber Choir, 4-H, and YHEC. She earned numerous awards, including the Thursday Study Club Award, Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award, and the Daniel F. Pomeroy Award. Emily's future plans are to attend college to study accounting and become a Certified Public Accountant. Jared. W. Murray Jared was a member of the National Honor Society, basketball and soccer teams, and earned the Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award. He plans to attend college and become a pharmacist. Nicholas Stephani Nicholas was active on the baseball, football, and wrestling teams, Vice President of the National Honor Society, President of the Leo Club, He earned the Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award, AES Armenia Mountain Wind Energy Project Scholarship. Nick was the silver medalist in the PIAA State Wrestling Tournament. He plans to attend college to earn a civil engineering degree. The evening closed with remarks from Garry Zuber and light refreshments. | Sara Jane Craig Sara was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Outstanding Young Woman, Chamber Choir, Student Council, and the school musical. She was Troy Fair Queen. Sara earned the Voice of Democracy Award, Silver Presidential Academic Fitness Award, the Brian Dunbar Memorial Award in drama. Her future plans include attending Edinboro University of Pennsylvania to study nursing. Alexis Martin Alexis participated in National Honor Society, and studied many areas of dance. She earned the Carson Consumer Discount Award, J. Clark Van Bloom and Mary Rita VanBloom Scholarship, and TAEA/ESPA Scholarship. Her future plans are to attend college and major in dance and business administration. Samuel Robbins Samuel participated in soccer, fencing and track and field teams, as well as Movie Club. He earned the Gold Presidential Academic Fitness Award and the United States Coast Guard Academy Scholarship. He will be attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to study mechanical engineering. |
