Canton Senior High School held their annual awards assembly on June 5, 2015 in the auditorium.
Shirley Grantier presented the Troy Community Hospital Auxiliary scholarship to Kayla Shay.
Mary Beth Schoonover presented the Bradford County Regional Arts Excellence award to Dakota Vanryn.
Krystal Bristol presented the Peggy E. Madigan Award to Jessica Pavey
Roger Wright presented Trevor Route with the DuPont Sciences, Engineering & Mathematics Scholarship.

Craig Coleman, Principal, introduced the top three honor students of the Class of 2014. They were: Valedictorian- Pearl Hess; Salutatorian- Jessica Pavey; Third Honor- Cassidy Bellows
Mr. G. Mathew Gordon, Superintendent of Schools, presented the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence given to the male and female graduate who has excelled in all areas including, but not limited to academics, athletics, attitude and personality. This symbol of enthusiasm, Warrior Pride, and total involvement is awarded to: Pearl Hess and Trevor Route
Mr. Craig Coleman introduced the Principal’s Award for Excellence and Student of the Year given to the senior student by each department in school for enthusiasm, pride, and involvement. Receiving these awards were:

Mr. Coleman presented the “Semper Fidelis” Award to Rachel Filling. The Semper Fidelis award for Musical Excellence is sponsored by the United States Marine Youth Foundation, a non-profit organization established to provide incentives for achievement in our nation’s schools. The Foundation has provided an award for musical excellence for student musicians throughout the country.
Mr. Coleman presented the National Marine Corps Scholastic Achievement Award to Trevor Route. This award is designed to recognize noteworthy academic achievement and leadership in high school students, Nominees are exemplary young citizens and role models for their peers. Recipients need not necessarily be straight A students, but students who have shown the greatest degree of academic improvement over the past semester or year.
Mr. Coleman presented the National Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award to Pearl Hess and Theron Binford.
Mr. Coleman presented Sidney Wheeler the Don Thomas Memorial presented by the publishers of the Canton Independent Sentinel, to the student with the highest average in grade 11 English.
Abigail Martin won the Don Thomas Memorial presented by the publishers of the Canton Independent Sentinel, to the student with the highest average in grade 10 English.
Mr. Coleman recognized the following students for the Good citizenship awards from Senator Gene Yaw to Mariah Castle and Travis Butcher
Mrs. Watson presented the James C. Arnold Award to Dakota Vanryn This award is given to a student with a proficiency in the field of chemistry and actively participates in high school athletics.

Mr. Wynne and Ms. Baxter presented the Red Cross Scholarships to Heidi Route, Jessica Pavey, Mariah Castle, Kayla Shay.
Mr. Hojnowski recognized those who are receiving their FFA degrees.
New this year is the Greenhand Degree which requires for the first year students to learn the FFA mottos, the salute, the FFA creed, emblems and colors, code of ethics, and official dress. They also have to be enrolled in an agricultural class and have a supervised agricultural experience book or SAE book.
Those receiving their Greenhands were: Corbin Driscoll, Maky Gleckner, Evelyn Katona, Erin Machmer, Chad Neal, Jordyn Robbins, Shea Roupp, Rachel Sparling, Tyler Storch, Joelle Urban, and Vanessa Wesneski.
Next was the Chapter Degree which requires second year members to operate a SAE book, have at least $150 or 45 hours invested into their project, and lead a 15 minute group discussion.
Those receiving the chapter degree were: Alyssa Blazer, Macy Castle, Hannah Fleury, Arianna Mays, Stacy Pidcoe, Victoria Richart, Eric Schrader, Alex Smith, Shayla Swain-Foust, and Lauryn Watkins.
Mr. Hojnowski also recognized those who have earned their county degree which requires a member to have successfully completed their junior year in FFA and have acquired their Greenhand and County degrees. Those who received this degree were: Ben Engel and Logan Flook.
He also recognized the following for receiving the Keystone Degree which is the highest FFA degree that can be obtained within the state. They were awarded at the state Farm
Show during January this year. When your name is called, please stand to be recognized.
Those who obtained their Keystone this year were Rachel Filling and Trisha Machmer.
Recognized also were those seniors who passed their NOCTI test and are now certified in Agriculture Production. Trisha Machmer and Rachel Filling.
The last award goes to a senior with a superior record of scholarship, leadership, and agricultural work experience and is awarded by Dekalb Corporation. This award goes to: Rachel Filling
