Talisman Energy has had a long lasting run of support with the Canton FFA. Since the first visits in 2009 when the students learned all about the industry with the then Fortuna Energy Inc. as they supported the working model of horizontal drilling that was presented at the farm show by the students. Today, Talisman Energy not only supports the Canton FFA in their endeavors at the farm show and the leadership conferences, but also has supported the Bradford County FFA over the past three years with their generous scholarships to the members of all of the county FFA chapters as well as space at the Troy Fair to share information about the FFA organization. Scott Snow of Talisman has also spearheaded bringing Junior Achievement activities to Canton High School and is planning on doing so once again this year. The Bradford County FFA organization appreciates all of the support of Talisman Energy that they have received over the years.
Recently a very special program was presented to the students in Mr. Tom Hojnowski's classroom. It was entitled, "Pigs and People" and was presented by Paul Yoachim, well known for his knowledge on raising pigs. One of the important facts he relates is how close pigs and people are in their make up, cells, personalities, etc. He had drawings of what a perfectly shaped pig should look like, one of the snout and others. First Citizens Community Bank donated $500 toward the "From Our Farms To Your Arms" program, which is being revived at Canton Elementary School. Goodview Farm and Northern Tier Greens also are major donors to the program. Janet Holmes, Manager of the Canton office of First Citizens, presents the check to Debbra Keppler and Tom Hojnowski, coordinators of "From Our Farms To Your Arms." See Gallery for More pictures with FFA Students The Troy FFA is raising money this year to help pay for our CDE (Career Developing Events) and leadership conference trips, to help pay for FFA supplies, and hopefully a trip to the National FFA Convention this coming year.
