Bradford County did very well in the 23rd "Battle of the Books" on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Williamson Junior-Senior High School where 40 teams gathered to compete in a reading competition. Students traveled from as far as Williamsport and Tunkhannock to compete. The students are given lists of 42 books and they have about 3 1/2 months to read the books and remember the important facts. They then compete against other teams in a family-feud style and answer questions about the books in a series of 4 rounds.
This year the team from Canton took first place in the Elementary Division, and the team from Troy won first place in the Junior High Division! It was a strong showing from our Bradford County students! The Troy team wishes to extend special thanks to the Allen Pierce Free Library in Troy who helped the team by purchasing the books needed for the competition. This group of Troy students has actually won first place in the competition for three years now, in 2013 in the Elementary Division and now in 2014 and 2015 in the Junior High Division.
