Canton Elementary School and Troy's Junior High Team Takes First Place In Battle of the Books4/16/2015
At a regular scheduled meeting of American Legion Post 167, Morris Run, PA members approved funding scholarships for the 2014-2015 school year totaling $50,000.
Since North Penn has closed and students moved to Liberty and Mansfield Schools they will receive $15,000 each and Canton and Troy $10,000 each. The money is to be divided into individual scholarships which should include both four year colleges and two year technical or trade schools. The selection of the students is left up to the individual schools. The Legion only requires that it be based on merit, need, and a display of patriotism. They also require that they be notified as to who received the scholarships and what their future plans are. Talisman Energy has had a long lasting run of support with the Canton FFA. Since the first visits in 2009 when the students learned all about the industry with the then Fortuna Energy Inc. as they supported the working model of horizontal drilling that was presented at the farm show by the students. Today, Talisman Energy not only supports the Canton FFA in their endeavors at the farm show and the leadership conferences, but also has supported the Bradford County FFA over the past three years with their generous scholarships to the members of all of the county FFA chapters as well as space at the Troy Fair to share information about the FFA organization. Scott Snow of Talisman has also spearheaded bringing Junior Achievement activities to Canton High School and is planning on doing so once again this year. The Bradford County FFA organization appreciates all of the support of Talisman Energy that they have received over the years.
