Troy's Nick Stephani won the Silver Medal in the 170 lb. class at the PIAA Wrestling Championships.
Nick wrestled Daniel Brett, Bedford in the first round. Nick scored the first takedown, but Brett escaped. Another takedown by Stephani and a near pin ended the scoring in the first period.
In the second period, Brett took down position and scored an escape. Stephani then scored with a takedown and got the fall at 2:20.
In the quarter finals, Nick faced a very good Taylor Cahill, Berlin-Bros. After a scoreless first period, Nick took bottom position and scored an escape. That would put the match into overtime. In the first overtime neither wrestler could score. In the second overtime Stephani took down position and scored an escape. In the third overtime, Cahill had 30 seconds to escape but Stephani wouldn't allow it, and win 2-1.
In the semi-finals, Stephani faced Levi Neibauer, Cambria Heights. In the first period Stephani took Neibauer down but Neibauer escaped. Stephani scored a second takedown and Neibauer escaped again. Stephani took Neibauer down for a third time and that would end the first period
In the second period, Stephani took down position and escaped and took Neibauer down and that concluded the scoring.
The third period saw Neibauer scored an escape and a technical violation for one point. Stephani then scored a takedown. Neibauer scored an escape. Points were scored with a stalling call on Stephani, but Nick pulled it out with a 11-6 win.
In the state final, Nick faced Greg Bulsak, South Park. After an exciting first period, the score was still 0-0. In the second period, Bulsak took the down position and after a grueling minute or so, Bulsak scored a reversal.
The third period was scoreless, and Nick took home the Silver Medal. His second place finish is the highest attained by a Troy High School wrestler.
The wrestling community salutes Nick and all the local wrestlers. The NTL did well in the tourney. The area is proud of you.

At 106 pound weight class, Dennis Route wrestled Logan Pirl, Ligonier Valley, in preliminaries.
Route took Logan Down and put him on his back and recorded a fall in 39 seconds.
In the first round Route met Kevan Gentile from Jim Thorpe, SE Champion. Route fell to Gentile in a fall in 3:40.
In the first round of consolations, Route wrestled Paul Miller from Saucon Valley. Route took him down and put Miller on his back for 2 near fall points Then Miller reversed Route, only for Route to escape and get another take down making the score 7-2 in favor of Route.
Route took Logan Down and put him on his back and recorded a fall in 39 seconds.
In the first round Route met Kevan Gentile from Jim Thorpe, SE Champion. Route fell to Gentile in a fall in 3:40.
In the first round of consolations, Route wrestled Paul Miller from Saucon Valley. Route took him down and put Miller on his back for 2 near fall points Then Miller reversed Route, only for Route to escape and get another take down making the score 7-2 in favor of Route.
Starting in neutral position, Route took him down and pinned Miller at the 2:16 mark.
In the second round, Route faced Sam Sallot from Harborcreek Sallot scored with a takedown then Route scored with a reversal only to have Sallot reverse him.
At the start of the second period, Route got points for a near pin the Sallot got a point. In the third period Sallot had top position and worked Route on his back and finally pinned him at the 4:05 mark.
In the second round, Route faced Sam Sallot from Harborcreek Sallot scored with a takedown then Route scored with a reversal only to have Sallot reverse him.
At the start of the second period, Route got points for a near pin the Sallot got a point. In the third period Sallot had top position and worked Route on his back and finally pinned him at the 4:05 mark.
Tyler Cole started wrestling in the first round and faced Conner Buttry, Chesnut Ridge SW2. After a scoreless first period, Buttny took bottom position and reversed Cole. That was the only scoring in the match. Buttry won a hard fought match 2-0.
In the second round of consolations, Cole wrestled Jonathan Tindell from Schuykill Valley. Cole scored a take down in the first period. In the second period he had a take down and an escape, and then took Tindell down again. Tindell took top and Cole reversed him, ending the match with Cole wining 7-0.
In the Second Round Colsolation Cole faced Ryan Shubeck (Panther Valley). After a scoreless first period, Cole took bottom position and escaped. They were the only points in the period. In the third period, Shubeck took down position and he escaped. Those were the only points of the third period which took the match into overtime. Shubeck had a take down in the first overtime to win the match.

Dylan Brennan, Troy, wrestled Jacob Beistel, Southmoreland, in the first round. Beistel scored a takedown and then Brennan scored an escape. That was all the scoring in the first period.
Beistel took down position and escaped and that was all the scoring in the second. Brennan chose neutral position and Brestel took him down and Brennan escaped. Beistel took Brennan down again and Brennan escaped and that would be all the scoring. Beistel won 7-3. Beistel would end up taking the silver medal at states.
In the second round consolation Brennan would meet Jack Karsten from Cameron County. Brennan scored the first takedown and then Karsten escaped. That would be all the scoring in the first period.
In the second period, Brennan took the down position and reversed Karsten. Karsten scored an escape and that would the scoring in the second. In the third period Karsten took down and escaped and that would end scoring and Brennan won 4-3.
In the third round of consolations, Brennan faced Tyler Beal, Keystone. Brennan scored the first takedown, then Beal scored an escape. That would end scoring in the first period. In the second period, Brennan scored an escape and then took Beal down. In the third period, Beal scored an escape then a take down. Brennan scored an escape and Brennan won 6-4.
In the fourth round of consolations Brennan faced Gene Ringer, Reynolds. After a scoreless first period, Ringer scored an escape in the second period. In the third, Brennan scored an escape. Then Ringer scored a takedown. Brennan scored an escape but couldn't get a takedown to win the match. Ringer won 3-2.
In the finals, Brennan faced Anthony Greggo, Pius X. Brennan scored a takedown in the first period. In the second period he scored another. Greggo scored an escape. and the final score was Brennan taking the win 6-2 in earn seventh place.
Beistel took down position and escaped and that was all the scoring in the second. Brennan chose neutral position and Brestel took him down and Brennan escaped. Beistel took Brennan down again and Brennan escaped and that would be all the scoring. Beistel won 7-3. Beistel would end up taking the silver medal at states.
