She attended Bucknell University and graduated with a banking degree in 1984. 35 years after she started banking, she retired as the branch manager in Troy from First Citizens Bank. Suzanne’s bowling career started when she was 10 years old. She would go bowling with her family at Elmira Bowling Center. She began bowling on a regular league in 1984 on the Thursday A League, which was a 5 lady team. The Thursday league split and the ladies would bowl the early shift one week and then late shift the next week. Her teammates and good friends were Jan Doner, Sharon Finnerty, Lee Ballard and Loraine Metzger. Born in 1968, Cynthia is no stranger to the bowling alley. Her parents, John and Jane Phlegar, moved to Troy, PA in 1972 right across from Terrace Lanes. Her mother Jane, grandfather Harry Reynolds, her uncle Paul Reynolds, and her many cousins were avid bowlers, so it would only make sense that Cynthia would be, too. During Cynthia’s youth, she bowled on various school teams and in tournaments and won many 1st and 2nd place trophies. During her senior year, Cynthia pushed herself to her limits and with a clean sweep - her team took 1st place, she won the female highest average, and she also won the female Senior Outstanding award. Jo Ann was born on November 15, 1941 and grew up on a farm in Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. She lost her mother at the age of six; then contracted polio at the age of nine. She worked at RPH for a short while and then switched to Troy Community Hospital soon after marrying Bill Avery. Bill and Jo Ann have four beautiful daughters who are now scattered about. Patricia Jo is in Wyalusing, Pa; Sheryl Kay in Salem, VA; Brenda Sue in Auburn, MA; and Amy Beth in Roanoke, VA. They are also grandparents to nine Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren. Susan and Cecil also have a daughter Cindy who lives in North Carolina and is getting married in August 2015. Cecil enjoys his bowling, but also has a passion for hunting, ATA trap shooting in which he has about ten perfect scores of 100 in 16 yard shoots and golfing in which he had a hole in one at Corey Creek. Cecil’s bowling history includes a 747 high series, two 300 games and a 298 game. He has attended the National Bowling Tournament five different times, the Pennsylvania State Bowling Tournament 24 times and will attend this year for 25 years in the state tournament. Cecil is sure he has had an average for every man’s league at Terrace Lanes at one time or other and also on the Mixed Leagues. The Troy USBC Hall of Fame Committee and Cecil’s peers are happy to announce that on March 28th 2015 Cecil Castle will be inducted into the Troy USBC Bowling Hall of Fame.
