On Saturday, August 8, 2015, 288 women gathered at Mt. Pisgah State Park for the 16th annual Women in the Wilds event, sponsored by the Friends of Mt. Pisgah. From pulling back the bowstrings of a compound bow, to discovering plants used to brew wild teas, to creating a grapevine ball or surviving in the wild, these ladies took advantage of the different hands-on opportunities offered, enjoying their time spent in the outdoors, at Mt. Pisgah State Park. Women practiced their marksmanship on the rifle range, paddled through Stephen Foster Lake, imitated predator and prey animal calls, and found geocaches with the use of a GPS.
The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their 35th annual Fall Festival, Lumberjack and Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving Competition on October 10th and 11th. ( Columbus Day weekend).
It will be held at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds located along Route 154 in Forksville. The time of the festival is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, rain or shine. There is an admission charge of $7.00 per adult, with children 12 years and under free when accompanied by an adult. The festival will feature something to interest every member of the family. For Mom, there will be a juried art/craft show/sale with a wide variety of items to choose from created by talented craftspeople. Also, there will be a quilt show/sale with many beautiful quilts to look at or purchase in the Flag Building. For the younger set, we have a variety of children’s activities such as painting faces on pumpkins and many other activities to keep them entertained. All veterans, active duty military personnel and their families are invited to enjoy a day in the outdoors at Mt. Pisgah State Park on Saturday, September 12th, from
10:00 am to 2:00 pm for the second annual Patriots in the Park Day. Ride your motorcycle to the park, canoe and kayak across Stephen Foster Lake or fish for a bass, try a compound bow or crossbow out on our archery range and locate some geocaches using our GPS’s! Equipment is provided, we need you! Due to limited staffing, Mt. Pisgah State Park’s swimming pool complex will be closed for the season beginning at 7:00 pm Friday, August 21, 2015. The swimming pool will not be open for the Labor Day weekend. The boat rental concession will be available by reservation only, please call 570-529-3304.
The LeRoy Sportsman's Association will hold its first Woodchuck Tournament on July 18, 2015. The event will start at legal hunting hours and will run until until 6:00 p.m. on July 18. Check-in will begin at 5:00 p.m. and all woodchucks must be turned in by 6:00 p.m. at Peppers Auction Barn (13850 Route 414 Canton, PA) West Burlington Township – Do you know how to tell the difference between an ox-eye daisy and daisy fleabane? Join Mt. Pisgah State Park Conservation Volunteer Ron Young on Sunday, July 12th from 1-3 p.m. for a wildflower walk near the Nature Center, Oh! Susanna trail and down by the lakeside area. Discover some folklore surrounding these summer beauties while enjoying an afternoon stroll in the park. Please call the Mt. Pisgah State Park office at 570/297-2734 to pre-register and learn more about the wildflower walk. Mt. Pisgah State Park is located 3 miles off Route 6 between Troy and Towanda. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset for picnics, hiking, fishing, boating and other environmentally related activities. In addition to scheduled programs, group programming can also be arranged. Dust off those running shoes and join us for the First Annual 5K Run/Walk at Sunfish Pond sponsored by the Bradford County Employee Wellness Committee and the Bradford County Parks Committee on Saturday, July 18, 2015 with registration at 9:00 am and the race beginning at 9:30 am.
Registration is just $5.00 and all proceeds from the race will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. “The Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families.” On Saturday, June 20, The Leroy Sportsman's Association held its first annual fishing derby for its members at the pond of Dave & Pat Wright of Canton Township. Kids need the outdoors, and the outdoors needs kids! On Saturday, August 22nd, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mt. Pisgah State Park will host the 21st annual Bradford County Youth Field Day.
This year’s event will include activities in tracks, insects, birds, mammals, trapping, .22 shoot, building birdfeeders, fossils, survival, archery, black powder, sporting clays, canoeing, camp cooking, fishing, and turkeys. Registration is now open! |
