On Monday, June 1, Family, Friends, Staff and the Bradford County Conservation District Board of Directors met to pay tribute to John C. George the former Supervisory District Conservationist of Bradford, Tioga, and Sullivan County. While attending Delaware College, John served as a student trainee with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS). Following completion of his college education, John went to work for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly the Soil Conservation Service) and remained there for 41 years until his retirement in 2008 as Supervisory District Conservationist. After his retirement from NRCS he served from 2008-2014 as an Associate Director on the Conservation District Board.
The Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service planted blueberry bushes in his memory. John and his family owned and operated Blueberry Ridge Farm with approximately 10 acres of blueberry bushes for over 30 years. John’s wife Donna and sons Jason and Christopher still operate Blueberry Ridge Farm today located off SR467 on Westbrook Road.
