This is a verse you can not take out of contexts and still have the true meaning. For you to know whom the word “who” refers to examine the prior verse and you will find it is the Holy Spirit. In our text the Holy Spirit is the “deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.” The word “deposit” can also be translated “earnest” as some translations do. When you see the word “deposit” you most likely think of making a deposit into your checking account. This is not the meaning in this passage.
The next phrase, “until the redemption” brings it home. The word “redemption” was used earlier in the sentence in verse seven, where the meaning was to be saved from our sins. Remember the meaning of the word, “redemption” is deliverance. Jesus Christ’s shed blood is the ransom price required to take away sin and bring you back into the right relationship with God. Your redemption is not complete yet, for when you receive your new glorious body, you will no longer be frail and under the curse. Rather, you will be in heaven with Jesus Christ for you “are God’s possession.” You belong to God because you have made Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. You did this by believing, by repenting, by confessing, by being immersed and by living a faithful life until Jesus takes you home.
Knowing all God has done for you, as this sentence has revealed, should bring you “to the praise of his glory.” You can never thank God enough for how He has provided salvation for those who will accept Jesus Christ, the Son of God as their Lord and Savior. Praise God for His redemption. You will never find a better guarantee then what God has given. THINK ABOUT THIS VERY CAREFULLY AND THEN PRAISE GOD FOR HIS REDEMPTION PLAN FOR YOU!!!!!!
