“You were marked in him with a seal.” When you hear the word “seal” most people think of the state seal which is put on certain documents or the sealing of a package you are mailing. In the normal use “seal” have three main meanings. First, a ‘seal” is that which authenticates or conveys authority. Second, the “seal” is a mark of ownership. Thirdly, the “seal” is used for security. The first meaning could be described this way: You make a business agreement with another individual and to make it official you would go together to a notary for you to sign and have it sealed. This makes it a legal business document. Also, each party must carry out their part of the agreement. An example of the second meaning is when you receive the title to a car showing you are the owner and there would be a seal on it making it official. Another example for this meaning is when cattle were branded showing the rancher was the owner. The third meaning is what Pilate commanded the soldiers to do to the tomb of Jesus so it would be secured. Melting wax on an envelope to seal it and then put an imprint in the wax was a way to tell if it was tamper with or not showing it had been secured.
Every Christian is sealed with “the promised Holy Spirit”. When you are sealed it shows you are the property of God. All three meanings are included in the sealing of “the promised Holy Spirit”. This takes place when you are immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and at that point you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise was given in the Old Testament as written in Joel 2:28-32, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the survivors whom the Lord calls”. When Peter preached the first sermon on Pentecost he referred to Joel as an explanation for what happened and how Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of this passage. If you want to be sealed with the promised Holy Spirit you must become a Christian as the Scripture reveals how.
Consider this very carefully before you take action for it will determine where you will spend eternity!!!!!!
