“In him” refers to Jesus Christ. Putting this phrase into its complete contexts you will see it is Jesus. True salvation will not be found in any one else. Many have proclaimed they are the Christ, but time has proven they were wrong. Only through Jesus can lives be made right in the sight of God. When Paul uses the “we” he is including all Christians along with himself. Remember, as Paul wrote this letter; he was in prison which makes it more personal for he was encouraging those who were the first readers. Today you can still find great encouragement from reading this letter.
You “have redemption through his blood”. What is “redemption”? Back during the time of the Roman Empire it was the price or ransom needed to free a slave or clear a debt. From God’s standpoint, it is the requirement when an individual sins to be brought back into the right relationship with Him. From the time Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, the penalty was death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23. Also, you will find in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This meant separation from God for eternity. The purpose of Jesus coming to this earth was to sacrifice His life; shedding His blood to save all who come to Him from their sins. From the beginning God has required the shedding of blood to cleanse individuals of their sins. God killed the animals to clothe Adam and Eve when they had sinned. During the Mosaic Age animals were used for sacrifices. The sacrifices only rolled the sins of the Israelite nation, on the Day of Atonement, ahead a year until the next Atonement Day. This practice continued until the time of Christ. Mankind learned through their own efforts they could not save themselves. Every individual is facing this challenge unless Jesus is their Lord and Savior. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones described it this way: “At the heart and centre of the gospel stands the truth that there is no salvation at all apart from the Lord Jesus Christ. ‘Christianity is Christ.’ Anything which may represent itself as Christianity but which doe not insist upon the absolute necessity and cruciality of Christ is not Christianity at all. Unless He is the heart and soul and centre, the beginning and the end of what is offered as salvation. It is not Christian salvation, whatever else it may be.” You can not leave the blood of Christ out of the picture and be a Christian. It is His sacrifice which will save you when you give your life to Him through believing, repenting, confessing, being immersed and living the Christian life. Are you going to obey Jesus Christ or reject Him? CONSIDER VERY CAREFULLY WHAT YOU WILL DO WITH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!
