What are some of the principles our nation was built on? To answer this we need to look at some of the quotations from early leaders. “We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that ‘except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.’ I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel” – Benjamin Franklin. God stopped the building of the Tower of Babel by confusing the language when the people were disobeying His commands, Genesis 11:1-9.
Another quote from Benjamin Franklin, “Where liberty dwells, there is my country”. In other words, Benjamin did not want to be a part of a country which did not believe in the freedoms which our nation was founded on.
“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity and freedom of worship here” – Patrick Henry. Patrick made a very powerful statement which must be recognized today. Our nation was founded on the principles of Christianity which is the reason for the greatness of the nation. It just shows Christians the importance of proclaiming the Gospel to lead individuals to Jesus. Christians must stand fast or the freedom of worship will be lost.
“My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!” - Thomas Jefferson. In studying history of the world, you can say our nation has been blessed more than any other. What does the future hold? It all depends on how individuals respond to the blessings they have received from the Lord Jesus Christ. One thing is for certain, we need to give thanks for the blessings we have received through Jesus if we expect to continue receiving blessings.
“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it” – by Thomas Paine. If you want to continue to have the freedoms we have today, you must support them or they will be lost. Already, there are some areas we do not have freedoms we used to have. Many lives have been given in order for us to have these freedoms today. If we allow these freedoms to be taken away from us, than those who have given their lives was for nothing.
“It will be celebrated…with pomp and parade…bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.” – John Adams. John has described very well how we celebrate the 4th even today. There will be family get-togethers, fireworks and picnics. But, in our celebrations, God must not be left out. Made sure you make a special time with your family to give thanks to God for our nation.
“Do not let anyone claim tribute of American patriotism if they even attempt to remove religion from politics” – George Washington’s farewell address. Our first president has said it well. Any one who attempts to remove religion from politics does not understand that when you are a Christian it is a part of your life and is not separated from politics. It all goes back to the fact God must build the house or nation if it is to survive. CONSIDER VERY CAREFULLY WHAT YOU STAND FOR!!!
