Peter considered Silas “a faithful brother.” Silas, is one individual, we know a great deal about compared to some others where we only know their name. Silas was a part of the early Jerusalem Church and he was a part of the Jerusalem council. He delivered the judgment outcome to the Gentile Christians in Antioch. At some point, in his early Christian life, God had appointed Silas as a New Testament Prophet. He had been on mission trips with Paul. He had delivered other letters to the Churches. Silas was a valuable servant of Jesus Christ. Also, Silas’ example of faithfulness was an encouragement to the readers to be faithful.
Peter had “briefly” written this letter to the Church. In comparison to some of the other letters written to the Church, this letter is short, but it has a very powerful, meaningful instruction. The subject matter Peter wrote about could have had more details; for writers of today have written whole books about how to be faithful.
The whole purpose of this letter was for “encouraging” the readers to be faithful and also it was “testifying” to the truth. From the original language ‘encouraging” has been translated encouraging, exhorting and comforting; the meaning is really all three together. There are times when every Christian needs encouragement. “Testifying” means to bear testimony, testify solemnly, establish by testimony, usually with the thought of giving evidence, which is the very thing Peter has done in this letter. He is “testifying this is the true grace of God.” It is the salvation which every individual can have if they will accept the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You do this by believing, repenting, confessing, being immersed and living a faithful life with Jesus Christ. Peter commands every Christian to “stand fast in it,” to live up to their commitment to Jesus Christ. The early Church stood fast even as they were being persecuted. We must do the same or on Judgment Day Jesus will say I never knew you. Cast him out. Prepare for Jesus Christ return before it is too late. The signs are showing the event of Jesus’ return could happen at any time. Be prepared. SEARCH YOUR HEART AND SEEK GOD’S WILL WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME FOR YOUR DESTINY DEPENDS ON IT!!!
