1st Peter 4:8-9. Peter finished writing about praying and then he wrote the verses we are examining. “Above all” is telling us to pay attention to the instruction Peter is now giving. He goes back to the subject of love which already has been dealt with several times in this letter but in a different perspective. Love, above everything else is the most important.
Peter continues by writing, “Offer hospitality to one another”. This is being friendly to strangers. Remember, in the early days of the Church, Christians would travel spreading the good News. There were not motels or hotels in those days, maybe once in awhile an inn. So Christians would invite travelers to stay with them “without grumbling”. Keep in mind the traveler may be someone who was looking for Christians to arrest them. Or an individual might be watching someone he knew was a Christian to see if he would lead him to other Christians so he might put them to death. On the other hand it would provide the opportunity to help a fellow Christian in their work for the Lord or to bring someone to Jesus. Sometimes it is not convenient being hospitable but by doing so anyway God will bless you in ways you never expected. Jesus is the answer. Seek Him out and obey His teachings and you will have the same love Jesus has. THINK ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS VERY CAREFULLY FOR YOU NEED THE LORD!!
