God and His word say that there are eternal investments that we can make here in this world. Talk about long term investing! In fact, these investments are one of the major reasons that each one of us is born. The problem is that many of us don’t realize it, acknowledge it or focus on it. We get caught up in the necessary busyness of life and live with a, here and now instead of a there and then perspective. God wants our actions here to be from an eternal perspective. He wants us to live each day with ETERNITY in mind and to live in the future tense.
This doesn’t mean that He doesn’t want you to have a home, a college fund or retirement account. It does mean that He wants our focus on His desires and plan for our lives. Jesus says in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” So where should our heart be? “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” Says Jesus, in Mark 12:30-31.
Invest some time in God’s word. He makes it clear what loving God and others is. Love is a verb and there are investment appointments and opportunities for each of us, if we are prepared and are looking for them. Eternity is a period of time that we cannot even comprehend and investing in it is doing what God placed us on earth for. So I ask you, what is your eternal bank balance? Something to think about…
The two inventors of the bungee rope went to Spain to test their invention. They built a 50-foot tower and, once completed, one of the guys stood on the edge of the platform and dove into the air with the rope tied to his feet. The other guy, standing up on the platform, waited until his friend returned up so that he could grab him. The first time his friend sprung up, he tried to grab him but missed and noticed that his head was swollen. The next time, he missed again and again there was a bruise on his head and face. This time, with much concern, he dove forward to get his partner, pulled him in and asked, "What happened? Is the cord too long?" His partner replied with his face all bloody, "What is piñata?"
