For some, the school dances had a similar effect, with girls on one side of the dance floor and guys on the other. Some of the girls were asked to dance early and often while others waited, secretly hoping to be invited. Just waiting along the wall… The boy’s perspective was somewhat different but with more or less the same concerns. Some of the more popular guys may have approached a girl with confidence, but most had to work up the nerve to ask. Fear of success was part of it, but more so the fear of rejection kept many a boy from even asking. What if she says no? Rejection hurts for all of us. If we internalize it, it affects who we are and what we become, but is that our true self worth?
God is the leader of the Earth’s ball field and dance floor. We all are His number one choice and no one is lesser in His eyes. Each of us was born to dance with Him and have a specific role in this, “game of life.” He has already picked us for His team. Do you know it deep inside?
The problem is that for many of us, we are like the fearful boy along the dance floor. We fear success or rejection and rather than ask, we prefer to accept things as they are. Doing so, we play the game as we want, and not what the team captain says. We prefer not to be picked. God is more like the girl along the wall on the dance floor. He has a very earnest desire for YOU to ask Him, but He WILL NOT dance with you until you do. The good news is, He is still there waiting and He NEVER says no. Don’t wait for the dance to be over. Something to think about…
No offense is intended here: A guy on a bar stool shouts to the bartender, "Wanna hear a blonde joke?" In a hushed voice, the guy next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, you should know something." Our bartender is blonde, the bouncer is blonde. I'm a 6' tall, 200 lb black belt. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2", weighs 225, and he's a rugby player. The fella to your right is 6'5" pushing 300 and he's a wrestler. Each one of us is blonde. Think about it, mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke?" The guy says, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."
