God sees the end from the beginning. He knows everything, literally. There is no guess work with God. His Doppler radar for life is spot on. We are part of His plan and He understands what is going to happen already. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly. He knew you before you were born and what you would be thinking right now, (Psalm 139). He knows the exact number of hairs on your head, (For some of us it’s easy math, Luke 12:7). He knows everything about everything, past, present and future. He is indeed in control.
This does not mean that we don’t or can’t play a part in this future. He may know what we are going to do or think, but it is still up to us as to what these actions and thoughts will be. We can choose to acknowledge and accept God and live according to His wishes, or not. We can to some degree help, (or hurt) our future, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Heb. 11:6). He also wants what’s best for you, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11). So He wants to reward us, prosper us and give us hope and a future! (That future includes eternity). But we must do our part.
When you accept Jesus into your heart and life and commit your life to Him, the future becomes brighter. So even when the camping trip gets rained out, it is still good because you know that it is for your benefit, even when it doesn’t make sense. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know who holds the future. And that’s good enough for me. How about you? Something to think about…
Dear Marty, I have been unable to sleep since I broke off your engagement to my daughter. Will you forgive and forget? I was much too sensitive about your Mohawk, tattoo and pierced nose. I now realize motorcycles aren’t really that dangerous, and I really should not have reacted that way to the fact that you have never held a job. I am also very sure that some other very nice people live under the bridge in the park, too. Sure my daughter is only 18 and wants to marry you instead of going to Harvard on full scholarship. After all, you can’t learn everything about life from books. I sometimes forget how backward I can be. I was wrong. I was foolish. I have now come to my senses and you have my full blessing to marry my daughter. Sincerely, Your future father-in-law. P.S. Congratulations on winning the lottery!
