The old saying, “There is strength in numbers” makes sense. One brick by itself can be stepped over and pushed aside by a toddler. A wall of bricks, firmly mortared together is another story. The, “Big Bad World” has a much harder time getting in. Have you considered that Christians and their churches have this type of protection? Not the buildings themselves, but the people and their associations with each other?
If you see the people as the bricks and God as the mortar, it can make sense. Not only do the believers help each other in times of need, but collectively they are a force in the spiritual battles we all face daily. This is one important part of being a connected part of a, “Spiritual Body” (I.E. a church family). Church is much more than a feel good/act of obedience thing. It builds the people up and helps protect them against the bad influences inside and out. Interested? Try a local church this week and come as you are. If you are not ready for that, pray to God when you are alone and open a Bible. Start reading in the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, (The records of Jesus) and think about it as a possible reality. Maybe this God thing is for real.
Could it be that you were a brick in a church family wall at one time and are no longer part or are occasionally involved and not really connected? Is your mortar loose? Feeling the people’s love, God’s love and being a part of the family are all good and rewarding things. Each day is a gift from God and now is the time to get re-connected! Not only that, but we all need to be part of the, “House of Bricks” so that the world doesn’t blow us over! Will I be caught dead without Jesus? “Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!” Something to think about…
A minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he talked with the organist to see what kind of inspirational music she could play after the announcement about the finances to get the congregation in a giving mood. “Don’t worry,” she said. “I’ll think of something.” During the service, the minister paused and said, “Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up.” Just at that moment, the organist started playing, “The Star Spangled Banner.”
