Have you ever wondered how acrobatic pilots keep oriented? The way that I understand it, after a period of steep banking and twisting, a person’s equilibrium changes and then, “level” can feel wrong. I heard of one story where a man in this position said, “I wanted to throw up, but I didn’t know which way up was!” A disoriented pilot can only relay on his instruments and trust in them alone, otherwise who knows which direction he might be going? I don’t know about you, but flying in random directions in airplanes is something that I generally try to avoid.
What direction have you chosen to take in life? There are so many options and theories that right and wrong, (if any) can become confused. Some believe that, “If it feels right”, or “If it works for you” then it’s right for you. Well, it felt right and worked for Jeffery Dahmer and Adolf Hitler. On what did they base truth and direction on? Was it their conscience? If so, relying only on our conscience and personal judgement may not be a fool proof system. Is there a right direction and absolute truth in this life? Have you found it?
The Bible is not a book of do’s and don’ts. It is a love letter from the God who designed us, this world and His plan for us in it. He loves us enough that He told us who He is, why we are here and how to live in the right way and in the right direction. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths, (Proverbs 3:5 and 6). God has given us our operating manual and instrument panel in this disorienting world. Are you reading it? Trusting in it? Or is your life flying in a random direction? Something to think about…
At the urging of his doctor, Bill moved to Texas. After settling in, he met a neighbor who was also an older man. “Say, is this really a healthy place?” “It sure is,” the man replied. “When I first arrived here I couldn’t say one word. I had hardly any hair on my head. I didn’t have the strength to walk across a room and I had to be lifted out of bed.” “That’s wonderful!” said Bill. “How long have you been here?” “I was born here.”
