It occurs to me that perhaps something has changed. Am I wrong in thinking that there are more and more Easter egg hunts? Don’t get me wrong, I like a good Easter egg hunt as much as the next kid, but it feels that as time marches on, the Easter Bunny gets bigger, and the resurrection of Christ gets swept farther and farther into the corner. It has almost come to a point where part of the population celebrates one thing, (Christ) and the rest another (The Easter Bunny). Just for the record, let’s compare the two.
The Easter Bunny: A fictitious rabbit that supposedly comes to deliver eggs to children who have been good, (much like Santa). Jesus Christ: A real person, who performed many miracles including raising people from the dead in front of many witnesses, fulfilled many biblical predictions in His life, suffered and then was confirmed dead by non-believers. Then after three days, came alive again and walked among many eye witnesses (over 500) for 40 days before ascending into the sky, (again with eye witness reports). The Son of God. When John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29). This has resulted in millions of changed and improved lives since.
So a make believe rabbit verses the lifesaving Son of God…I have nothing against the rabbit, but if he is put ahead of God then… Another year has passed, has Jesus become, “Out of place” on YOUR Easter holiday? It’s not about the rabbit, it’s about the lamb. Something to think about…
A funeral service is being held in a synagogue for a woman who has just passed away. At the end of the service, the pallbearers are carrying the casket out when they accidentally bump into a wall jarring the casket. They hear a faint moan.
They open the casket and find that the woman is actually alive. She lives for 10 more years and then dies. A ceremony is again held at the same synagogue and at the end of the service the pallbearers are again carrying out the casket. As they are walking, the husband cries out, “Watch out for the wall!”
