With the intent to make someone look foolish, probably not. Do we hide things from others and present a partial or false front at times? You bet. It is not always a bad thing, but we have to admit that very few people in our lives know the, “real us.” Almost always, those that know us quite well are family members or long-term close friends. Only the inner circle is allowed to see us as we truly are. The rest get an incomplete or even false representation. For most of us, that’s just the way we are. It’s like, “What they don’t know can’t hurt me.”, or how about, “Boy, if they only knew what I was thinking…” I have to admit that I have been guilty. But they don’t know, that’s the thing.
We open our lives up to the people we trust the most and to those that love us and yet we still don’t tell them everything. Here is the thing, God knows us better than any of them and loves us more than we even love ourselves. In addition, we can trust Him more than ANYONE. Do you have personal conversations with Him. Have you trusted Him with EVERYTHING? Even your life? Because if we think we are fooling God, we are fooling ourselves. Something to think about…
My apologies: Two young men were out in the woods on a camping trip, when they came upon this great trout brook. They stayed there all day, enjoying the fishing, which was super. At the end of the day, knowing that they would be graduating from college soon, they vowed that they would meet, in twenty years, at the same place and renew the experience. Twenty years later, they met and traveled to a spot near where they had been years before. They walked into the woods and before long came upon a brook. One of the men said to the other, "This is the place! The other replied, "No, it's not!” The first man said, "Yes, I do recognize the clover growing on the bank on the other side. To which the other man replied, "Silly, you can't tell a brook by its clover.”
